Club Connect - After School Program
Club Connect is a partnership with the Dept of Education to reduce poverty and alleviate family distress.
Club Connect began in 2010 as a pilot project in our Boys & Girls Club;
currently extended until June 2012.
Club Connect is an after school program for 40 children from homes with annual income
less than $22,000.
The children are picked up from school in our Boys & Girls Club van, brought to the Club,
given a healthy (& fun) snack, get help with their homework and are engaged in lots of fun activities both indoors and
outdoors until the end of day, when they’re all packed up and go home once again in the Boys & Girls Club van.
Club Connect is the only after school program in Miramichi with a homework component,
and is often the only homework help many of the children receive. Program staff and volunteers actively assist in communicating
the essential literacy skills needed to succeed in speaking, listening, reading and writing. Club Connect is a solution for children in our community.
